Summer reading challenge for children and adults

Every year Northamptonshire Libraries deliver the Summer Reading Challenge, which challenges children to read 6 books during the summer holidays. It has been proven that children who don’t continue reading during the summer have a lower reading age when they return to school in September than that before the summer. You can find out more about the challenge on our webpage: www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/src or on our facebook page: www.facebook.com/NorthamptonshireSRC

Last year we sent Parish, District and Town Councils our posters and a lot of you were kind enough to display these on your notice boards and social media accounts/websites, and I wondered if you could support us in a similar way this year. The challenge starts on the 10th July and runs until September, when children return to school.

We are also running an adult reading challenge this year, called Fully Booked, which will run for 6 months, from the 10th July, and I have attached a promotional image for this in case you thought members of your community would be interested in taking part in this too.  Full information about this, and the companion podcast, can be found at www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/fortheloveofbooks

Many thanks for your continued support,

Jo Hoyer
